An aimsir gnáthchaite (habitual past)

This is the habitual past tense (or imperfect), used to express a habitual action that occurred in the past. E.g. I used to run, you used to eat, she used to sit, we used to play, etc.

First conjugation

Formula:

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -(e)adh + <pronoun>

First person singular (synthetic):

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -(a)inn

Second person singular (synthetic):

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -t(e)á

First person plural (synthetic):

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -(a)imis

Third person plural (synthetic):

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -(a)idís

Autonomous:

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + -t(a)í
