An aimsir chaite (past)

This is the simple past tense, describing an action in the past. E.g. _I ran, you ate, she sat, we played, _etc.

First conjugation

First person plural (synthetic form):

<verb root> + séimhiú + (e)amar

All other subjects:

<verb root> + séimhiú + <pronoun>

Autonomous (note the lack of séimhiú!):

<verb root> + (e)adh

Note that the 1st person plural and autonomous form of the past tense of reáchtáil broadens the final consonant of the root.

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú, remove -(a)igh or syncopate, append -(a)íomar

Other subjects:

[d' if verb begins with vowel/f] <verb root> + séimhiú + <pronoun>

Autonomous:

<verb root> remove -(a)igh or syncopate, append -(a)íodh
